Roasting in Seattle since 1992, Fonté prides themselves in treating their specialty beans as individuals and hand-roasting to “perfection", rather than an arbitrary light, medium or dark designation. That said, you won’t find any light roasts here: their blends, which run the gamut along the medium to dark spectrum, are some of the richest, smoothest roasts we've tasted. A true local institution, Fonté's 25+ years of expertise shine through in the cup. They’ve been at this for quite a while, and they know exactly what they want their coffee to be; and so do their loyal customers, who appreciate their nod to a traditional, more developed roasting style within an industry often dominated by flavor trends.
Owner Paul Odom started his coffee roasting journey at the age of 22, driven to source standout coffees and create a lineup of sophisticated blends. Ask Paul about a coffee-producing country, and he’ll breakdown the top microlots and their processing methods. Master Roaster Steve Smith adds another 30 years of coffee roasting to the enterprise, and his passion is bringing every bean, whether intended for a blend or as a single origin, to its fullest flavor expression. One of Fonté’s biggest influences is the potential flavors that can be brought out in each coffee.
Partnerships are a core value for Fonté. They work closely with small farms, nurture relationships with coffee growers and buyers, and give back to the Seattle community: as just one example, they donate all the proceeds from their annual Holiday Blend to a local children's charity. A popular provider of beans to local coffee bars and restaurants, along with many five-star hotels across the country, they seek to provide an informed, elevated, and luxury coffee experience to at-home coffee enthusiasts.
