Curator's Notes

This fudgy, organic Guatemalan coffee is death by dark chocolate — or, rather, it’s life by coffee! Intense cocoa flavors abound in this smooth medium roast, with a luscious fruity aroma and a round, creamy sweetness like canned peaches and vanilla cream. The 100% organic Guatemala Cuchumatanes is one of our perpetual favorites from Lori at Longshoreman’s Daughter coffee. We've carried this coffee from Lori for multiple years in a row, and every year it gets better and better.

Roaster's Notes

This Guatemalan coffee comes from CODECH co-op in Huehuetenango, washed and sun-dried. Organic and delicious, it has a satin body, with notes of dark cherry, brown sugar, sweet tea, and fudgy chocolate pudding!

"Rich, full bodied flavor!"

"Beans surprisingly oily. Juicy, fruity smell before grinding. Black, surprisingly tart with berry like flavors. Overall, very nice. Not sure I get chocolate pudding (maybe a little on the back end?), but this is very nice. A little bit of your creamer of choice cuts the tartness significantly; I think I would encourage drinking this black."

"Wow! This was a surprise. Based on the smell, we thought this would be bitter, but this is an incredible treat! We do pour over and drink it black, but it was still sweet. This would be fantastic as a winter roast on a cold, snowy day. Definitely a re-order for us! "

"This is a nice medium roast with a clean finish, although a little light bodied for my tastes. I'm sure this would go great in a blend but by itself it leaves some deeper flavor to be desired, even when upping the ratio of grounds to water. I got notes of cocoa and almond. "

"The aroma was as described, vanilla berries and chocolate. However upon brewing it was just mostly chocolate and nutty. I think as a lighter roast it would have been better."

"Prepared with an aeropress, I didn't quite get the cherry/pudding roundness expected, but the coffee was still nice and smooth, with tea-like notes, without being too light."

"I just got this coffee because of the name, but ended up loving it! This espresso had a beautiful crema and I definitely picked up on the dark cherry and brown sugar notes!"
