Curator's Notes

The plumeria is Nicaragua's national flower — native to the region's warm, breezy tropics. These conditions, paired with the region's lush and hilly landscape, allow coffee to thrive. Nicaragua Plumeria is a wonderful showcase of this region: we pick up developed, toasty flavors of semi-sweet chocolate chips, dark buckwheat honey, and cedar in this medium roast.

Roaster's Notes

This regional coffee type, known as “Joya,” comes from a group producers we work with throughout the Matagalpa and Jinotega regions of Northern Nicaragua at altitudes of 1,175 – 1,400 meters above sea level. Farmers in this area grow a combination of Caturra, Catuai, Marseillesa, and Catimor on small farms of 2-10 hectares. This coffee comes from several of our LIFT clusters. LIFT is a coffee quality improvement and sustainability program designed to improve quality and production over a five-year period. Therefore, our producers pay special attention to the health of their plants and to ripeness during harvest to ensure the highest quality coffee possible. Mercon Specialty specially selected a blend to highlight the character of Nicaragua, with a crisp and clean acidity, heavy body and a lingering sweet aftertaste. We believe this is a perfect complement to any blend in need of body and acidity.

"Liked the flavor profile, but made me jittery, which is not my usual experience. Not sure if it's me, or just too strong. "

"Ok cup of coffee, just bland. Too many other good ones from beanbox to get this one again. Using a Technivorm Mocca Master drip machine."

"Yes the cedar/woodsy taste is a little too overpowering. With a little honey like backbone, I guess it is a decent cup."

"Good coffee in both drip and french press. The cedar flavor can be a little overwhelming"
