Cool and rainy Cobán, known for its misty weather, may be the “Seattle” of Guatemala! Finca Santa Isabel, operated within the family since 1965, has put Cobán on the map of Guatemalan specialty coffee: thanks to his family's dedication to coffee and innovation in cultivation, processing, and irrigation techniques, Luis Valdez is a two-time Cup of Excellence winner.
This cup, his latest, is not to be missed. The flavors are mellow, lush and sparkly with sweet peaches, chocolate, and vanilla sugar cookies. The perfect companion to a foggy morning, and the ideal coffee for a dunk of your favorite pasty. So good, it leaves us misty-eyed.
This is our second year buying coffee from Luis Valdez Jr, (aka "Wincho"), who oversees two farms in Guatemala's Cobán region. This washed coffee is a mix of Caturra and Catuai, with comforting flavors like chocolate wafer, peach and vanilla.
"Nice cherry-raspberry tartness and fruitiness, very good"
"This cuppa unfortunately just wasn’t for me, even though the description had me sold. A little too bright and acidic for me. I gifted this to a friend and they reported back with ‘how come you don’t like this?!’"
"Loved the raspberry hints in this one! Delicious even as it cooled down. I didn't find any hints of allspice...seemed mostly fruity but it was a great cup of coffee."
"A little to sour for my taste. And didn't get any allspice notes "
"Amazing!! I love cocoa in my coffee and raspberry is my favorite! I brewed single serve cups and couldn’t stop myself from going back for more. It wasn’t too sweet and the flavors weren’t overwhelming. "
"This is the first coffee from D&W that I had the pleasure drinking. The raspberries had a distinctive note that helped make this cup delicious. "
