Curator's Notes

We're mesmerized by the amazing Meaza! Coava Coffee’s Ethiopia Meaza Washed is a light roast coffee with flavors that unfold like a labyrinth. The journey begins with delicate notes of hibiscus tea that slowly lead toward juicy honeydew. As it cools, we find ourselves on a pathway to sweet candied orange, before coming out of the woods with lasting caramel sugars. It's a subtle, harmonious experience — and one that we don't mind returning to again and again.

Roaster's Notes

https://shop.coavacoffee.com/collections/coffee/products/meaza-1 This unique "zero defect" lot is a celebration of our long standing relationship with the Kochere Cooperative. These stalwart producers consistently deliver the ripest coffee cherries, while mill managers pay close attention to the weather during the drying process to ensure the beans are not dried too quickly. After being processed and rested, the green coffee is sorted an additional two times more than other lots, and sorters are paid three times the average wage. This extra income helps workers support their families and communities, highlighting the importance of specialty coffee premiums. In the cup, look for notes of candied citrus, honeydew, and hibiscus tea.

"Five star ⭐️ coffee alert! Absolutely love this light roast coffee. Tea like and wonderful with an easy drinking kind you can come back to. Love it! This is absolutely one to get a bag of before it is gone. If it wasn’t so late I would have another cup right now!"

"Given the other reviews, I am the odd man out who really liked this medium roast which brought through the flavors and the smokey roast while letting the notes shine. "

"I didn't pick up on many of the tasting notes as described. I found the coffee to be pleasant with notes of chocolate and dried dark fruits particularly raisin."

"It took a bit of playing with this to get the perfect balance of flavors coming through, but my god was the journey worth it. The florals are definitely the top note here, almost overwhelming on my first try. However, once I figured out the proper bloom time, flow rate, and temp this coffee took us on a surprising trip. I found the florals refreshing, and complimentary to the slight ginger-like sweetness of what I assume is the candied orange. Somewhere between the floral and the slight funk of the honeydew is where it hits. I found sip after sip pleasant and full, but not overwhelmingly so as the citrus cuts through the floral and mellows out the musky quality of the melon. Thanks for the delightful experience. "

"It’s a good coffee but I think the hibiscus notes were too upfront to me. Not my favorite."

"Smooth morning brew. Surprisingly though for an Ethiopian coffee ☕️ there was very little of the fruity notes I have come to expect. Very good coffee."
