Curator's Notes

Sugar plums dance in our heads when we think of this cup, along with a nice cedar spiciness that gives a cozy feel to this sweet coffee. Our first taste of a natural Tanzanian. We’re grooving on it.

Roaster's Notes

Ngila Estate was established in Karatu in the early 1900s by a German landowner, which was typical to the establishment of large estates during the German colonial period. The farm eventually transferred to British ownership after World War II when the country became a British-led United Nations Trust Territory. In 1990, the estate was sold to Rudolph Meyer, whose family still owns the land today. The 100-hectare farm has since been upgraded with modern irrigation and processing facilities.

"I really enjoy coffees from this roaster. My husband and I brewed this roast daily in my french press and occasionally found ourselves brewing a second press. Great flavor, smooth drinking! "

"Loved this blend! Smooth and delicious. The hints of brown sugar really come thru in this mix. The fragrance from a cup of this will make any morning a great morning. "

"A little sour/fruity and the plum and grape was noted right off. It was a suprisingly smooth finish. I can't wait to try more varieties from Velton's. Brewed in my chemex with distilled water."

"This roast is bomb-diggity. Smooth, rich, with a hint of spice. This was the perfect mug on a cold and foggy Seattle morning. The aeropress especially brought out the notes of brown sugar to the foreground. Brew methods used : aeropress, inverted. espresso in La Pavoni Europiccola"

"This was a enjoyable cup of coffee. The chocolate was the most prominent characteristic. Nice tart acidity, worth trying again."

"Loved this one. How I brewed it got me rich flavors of chocolate, cedar, and brown sugar. A favorite from the sampler box I got!"

"Reminds me a little bit of a Starbucks House Blend, great for the chilly Fall mornings. I would have this with something pumpkin spice or a pecan pie!"
AMY 10/17/2017

"This coffee is full bodied with a solid finish that's spicy, almost peppery. Unexpected for a light roast, but absolutely delightful. This is cold weather coffee."
