Tastes Like: Mixed berries, Chocolate, Nutella

Curator’s Notes: Anaerobics are still finding their place in the specialty coffee world, and they’re far from easy to predict; since I tried my first one in 2019, I’m still never sure what they’ll taste like until that first sip. In my opinion, the best ones are deep and sweet, with lightly-spiced creaminess and a luxuriously full body– and this Worka Sakaro Anaerobic from Red Rooster delivers all that and more! At first sip, flavors are all dark berries, raspberry, huckleberry, with a hint of rose to keep it light and aromatic, maybe a touch of citrus zest. Heavy, creamy body delves into a finish of nutty chocolate that may remind you of – yes! – Nutella spread. Super decadent. Red Rooster Coffee, based in a small hamlet of Virginia, keeps this coffee at a perfect roast style of Light-Med, light enough to emphasize all that fruit, and dark enough to enhance that chocolate body and flavor. The slightly more developed profile makes this coffee amazing in all sorts of ways, from basic drip brew to cold brew to a splash of milk or cream. I even bet it would make a kick-butt espresso! I’m not sure how long this coffee is going to last, but do yourself a favor and grab a bag while it’s here. Even if you think you don’t love anerobics, this one might change your mind… maybe even your life ;)

Bottom Line: You’ll love this coffee if you love mixed berry pie, Ethiopian naturals, or if, every so often, you gaze wistfully at the hazelnut-flavored creamer in the milk section at the grocery store.
