Curator's Notes

“Kenya” dig it? It’s prime summer campfire season, and we’ve found the coffee to match. Coava Coffee’s big, bright Kenya Karuthi AA is cozy, toasty perfection, for a full body of syrupy blackberry jam, fire-roasted chestnuts, and a hint of gingery spice. Whether you’re waking up with the sun or gazing up at the summer stars, this lush, romantic cup will warm you up in all the right ways.

Roaster's Notes

The Othaya Farmers Cooperative has gained notoriety for many of the coffees they produce. The Karuthi Factory is one of many in the cooperative that produces outstanding and exceptionally unique lots. The red volcanic soils of this region, along with cool temperatures and slow cherry maturation, contribute to a distinctly wonderful flavor profile. Taste notes: Complex, multi-layered, spice-toned. Coconut, blackberry, ginger blossom, wild honey, dark chocolate in aroma and cup. The structure is sweet, tart and savory in balance with juicy, bright acidity; plush, syrupy mouthfeel. The long, resonant finish centers around berry and coconut, supported by ginger blossom and chocolate.

"Brewed this in a Hario syphon, very drinkable coffee, nice chocolate tones. Very smooth and drinkable any time of the day, recommended."

"Brewed in a pour-over bodum. Ground the beans fresh which were roasted on 7/15/19. Today is 7/24/19. Definitely getting the chocolate tastes but no coconut (which I would have loved) or blackberry/spice. Still made a great cup and I would definitely enjoy an entire bag of this coffee. "

"Very nice coffee. Quite rich and bold with some nice blackberry like notes. I did not really get much coconut from it, which I was really looking forward to, but still enjoyed it and would like to get a full bag. Brewed french press."
