Curator's Notes
Meaning “togetherness” in Swahili, Muungano coop promotes gender equality, ethnic harmony, AND makes a great cup! Specialty coffee from Congo, like this one, is a luxury: we taste syrupy apricot sprinkled with sugar and spice.
Roaster's Notes
Located on the southwestern shore of Lake Kivu, near the borders of Rwanda and Burundi, The Muungano Co-op is comprised of nearly 4400 members, about half of which are women. Brought to us through Atlas Coffee Importers, this coffee was chosen by Lizzie Johnson for use in the United States Barista Championship this year at the annual Specialty Coffee Association Expo in Seattle.
