Rwanda Gashonga is a washed bourbon from the Gashonga women's cooperative. Founded in 2009, the coop has since become fair trade certified and earned 7th place in Rwanda's Cup of Excellence competition in 2015. The Gashonga Washing Station is located in the Western Provence of Rwanda in the Rusizi District, which contains the western half of the famous Nyungwe Rain Forest.
This coffee is light, tea-like, citrusy-sweet, with a tangerine acidity, notes of tart red plum and hazelnut, and a honey-like caramel in the body. A lingering hint of leather adds savory complexity to a round, syrupy finish.
