Flavors are smooth and bold, with a syrupy, herbaceous body and full, familiar notes of dark chocolate and toasted macadamia nuts. Kona is to coffee what Napa is to wine; with only 1500 acres of growing space on the island, it’s one of the most exclusive coffees in the world. It’s only grown on the west coast of the big island of Hawaii, nestled alongside the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes. The super-specific origins of these beans gives this Kona a wine-like taste of the land, and rare clarity of flavor. The lava-based soil is rich with minerals, well-draining, and the combination of morning sun, misty rainfall, and cool nighttime air creates the perfect conditions for coffee plants to flourish. Greenwell Farms, like many Hawaiian coffee farms, is a time capsule, operated by the same families for multiple generations. Established in 1850, Greenwell is still operated within the family, currently run by the founders' great grandson, Thomas. Their Kona is grown in a specially cultivated, 35-acre patch in the center of the farm, where it's handpicked and processed to bring out the complexity, balance, and flavor that makes Kona coffee so renowned. Most recently, Greenwell Farms took top prize at the Hawaiian Coffee Association's 11th Annual Cupping Competition, held in 2019.
Waikiki Roasters is our newest coffee partner, a duo of long-standing roasting professionals who, like many in Seattle, escape to Hawaii during the city's rainiest months. Now, they've dedicated themselves to sourcing the very best Hawaiian beans, from prominent, family-run farms, with a mission to share the aloha spirit with Seattle and beyond.
