Curator's Notes
Hinga Kawa is the first all-women’s coffee association in Rwanda, founded to produce fine coffee and help rebuild the community. This roast is sweet and fragrant, like a spiced, sugary fruit tart. Silky, lingering finish. Girl power, indeed.
Roaster's Notes
We’re excited to be welcoming back one of our favorite and most dear-to-our-heart coffees that we have the honor of featuring each season. The Rwanda Hinga Kawa Washed Process from the Rushashi sector of Gakenke, Rwanda. Abakundakawa--which means “those who love coffee”--was formed in 2004, and was the first women’s farmer cooperative of its kind in Rwanda. The Hinga Kawa Women’s Association includes both Hutu and Tutsi members, and was born out of a desire to make poverty their mutual enemy--instead of each other. With this mission, the women of Hinga Kawa have been able to move forward and heal their community through their vision, leadership and desire to produce great coffee.
