Is it winter yet? This cup of creamy dark chocolate and toasty graham crackers is just begging for a crackling fireplace and snow flurries outside your window. Colombia La Orquidea, the newest single origin from Rainier Coffee, is a sip of cozy winter magic. A touch of sweet peach preserves brightens up a body of chocolate ganache, and the clean, roasty finish brings a dry, graham-cracker spice and a hint of fragrant cedar. These beans are roasted to a robust medium level, for a decidedly rugged profile: a bold take on everything we love about chocolatey Colombian coffee.
La Orquidea means orchid in Spanish, an homage to Colombia’s national flower. Tolima is located in the Andes range of Colombia, toward the central area of the country. Coffee from this region has been historically difficult to export, remaining a well-hidden secret until just recently. In 2014, a local cooperative was formed to focus on organic certification, updated farming methods, and market access for small farmers. The result? More of Tolima's fantastic, small-lot, shade-grown coffees are available in the US. Lucky U.S... lucky us!
It’s a rare treat to enjoy a single origin coffee with a more developed roast profile. This one is robust and flavorful, with sweet, bold notes of chocolate, spice, and cedar. Reserve a bag of Colombia La Orquidea, roasted fresh from our friends at Rainier Coffee Roasters. Whenever the snow comes… you’ll be ready!
||★★★★★||★★★★★ For a Colombian coffee, it was a little disappointing. Kind of a harsh taste but was still quite enjoyable. Nice dark chocolate and little taste of peach.|
