Roaster's Notes

Just 24 miles south of Ywa Ngan, the small but productive Danu community of Myin Dwin grows coffee, tea, oranges, and avocados. Until the 1970s, the area was known for heroin poppies, one of the few income sources in this remote and isolated region. The families of Myin Dwin chose to leave that behind and turn to coffee, inspiring nearby villages to follow. Their leadership in the region earned them the nickname “the mother of coffee.” In 2015, farmer U Than Soe won 1st prize at the first Myanmar cupping competition, and the community began producing specialty coffee as a group soon after.
