The smallest of the Central American countries, El Salvador has always been a major producer of some of the world's top coffees. The highlands of the Apaneca-llamatepec Mountain Range, nearby the active Santa Ana Volcano is the most renowned growing region of the country— this is where you'll find El Manzano farm, a SHG (strictly high grown) farm that was established back in 1872, run by the Lopez Diaz family for five generations. Their gesha program is relatively new, on the forefront of El Salvador's specialty coffee scene. As the story goes, Emilio Lopez Diaz first entered his coffees in the Cup of Excellence competition over a decade ago, where they finished dead last. Emilio vowed that, the next time he entered the competition, he would win top prize. Years later, his hard work paid off: in 2018's Cup of Excellence, Emilio's two lots of Gesha coffees won 1st and 2nd place!
