We are happy to announce the return of Fundamental Coffee’s Summer Solstice Blend, the sunniest dark roast seasonal blend we carry. Fundamental Coffee, Seattle’s dark-roast artists, crafted the 9th edition of this cup with exceptional arrivals seen from Latin America; Guatemala Fancy Huehuetenango, Nicaragua Cabo Azul, and Brazil Matas de Minas Fazenda Bom Sucesso. This attention to detail and freshness is unusual for a dark roasted coffee and the results are magical! Rich dark cocoa opens this smooth cup, along with a subtle citrus brightness and a balanced honey texture. The finish is toasty and aromatic like freshly grilled pineapple making it super refreshing served both hot or over ice.

Roaster's Notes

2022 marks the 7 th year of our seasonal offering Summer Solstice Blend. Thoughts of what will comprise this summer favorite usually begin in the winter months when most of the potential components normally start shipping from origin. You have come to know Fundamental Coffee as a purveyor of fine coffees with a dark roast interpretation of our single origins and blends. If there is one notable time of the year where we ease up slightly on the roast color, it is when we assemble Summer Solstice Blend. Don’t worry, its still a dark roast by all accounts except for maybe ours. This year’s edition of Fundamental Summer Solstice Blend features three enticing coffees blended lovingly to showcase summer’s bounty of ripe fruit, floral aromas and refreshing flavors. Like all our blends, each component has a special contribution to the resulting cup. Playing a leading roll this year is a coffee from the Nyeri region in Kenya, joined by a new cooperative from Rwanda and our tried-and-true Colombia Cattleya. The resulting blend has elements of each including florals and blackcurrant, milk chocolate and bracing lemony acidity in the finish. If you think you’re picking up some candied orange or sweet pink grapefruit, we wouldn’t argue.
