Tastes Like: Milk Chocolate, Marmalade, Nutmeg, Mulled Wine

Curator’s Notes: Okay, we can’t all be vacationing in Cartagena this year, but this is the next best thing! If you’re not familiar with Devocion, the Brooklyn-based, B-Corp roaster focuses solely on Colombian coffees, and one of the only coffee companies who flies in their specialty beans within days of harvest – the flavor you get out of their coffees is really something else. As I was cupping through holiday blends this year, I kept coming back to theirs. It’s on the lighter side of medium, with a soft, orange-juicy acidity, a smooth body like melted chocolate ice cream, and a finish of purple plums, dried blueberry, pomegranate, with a distinctive sprinkle of nutmeg – like mulled wine (but at breakfast right??) It’s sweet without being too sweet, memorable among medium roasts, with a layered complexity that will make any coffee snob in your family raise an eyebrow. In short, this one belongs on any holiday brunch or dessert table. I’d pair this one with a warm croissant and marmalade jam, or blueberry pancakes to emphasize those dark fruit notes in the finish. A great coffee AND an excuse to make pancakes?? Done!

Bottom Line: You’ll love this coffee if you love mulled wine, blueberry pancakes, or traditional Colombian coffees.
