Curator's Notes

We’ve been waiting all year and it's finally Ethiopia season! We are so excited to introduce Ethiopia Wuri from Coava Coffee Roasters, our first fresh-crop Ethiopian coffee of 2023. The birthplace of coffee, Ethiopia is home to thousands of heirloom coffee varietals not found anywhere else in the world. Coffee harvest happens once a year from October to February, and makes its way to roasters in the US around June. After days of tasting samples on the hunt for our favorite new brew, Ethiopia Wuri caught our attention. It’s sweet like peach candy, richly fruity like red wine, and delicate like a spiced citrus tea. Truly a cup that stands out from the rest with a unique medium-roast richness that pairs perfectly with its delicate floral notes.

Roaster's Notes

The Gedeb district is home to thousands of coffee farming families producing some of the most incredible coffees in the world. Located south of Yirgacheffe, Gedeb is quickly developing a reputation for stellar quality. Ranger Industry & Trading PLC has been active in Ethiopia for years, assisting farmers by focusing on productivity and meticulous processing. They also use earnings to fuel social impact in the communities they source from, investing in local needs such as localized cherry collection sites to reduce producer transportation costs and road construction projects to make travel safer and easier. Since the relaxation of export regulations by the Ethiopian government in 2017, it has become easier to maintain full traceability to washing stations and farmers when sourcing outstanding coffees like this one. In the cup, look for complex notes of bergamot, peach, and pinot noir.
