Curator's Notes
Established in 2010 from small town Floyd, Virginia (like really small, under 1000 people!), comes the highly-awarded and incredible coffee roaster, Red Rooster! Much like how everyone in Floyd knows each other, everyone in the coffee industry is hearing of Red Rooster. They started in 2010 with the simple notion of roasting excellent coffee for Rose McCutchan's existing coffee house. Rose’s husband, Haden Polseno-Hensley, took on the challenge of roasting, and soon, word of Red Rooster's quality spread around Virginia and up and down the East Coast.
Today, Red Rooster has gained the attention of coffee enthusiasts and industry folk alike — their team and roasts have taken home top awards at the Good Food Awards, and US Coffee Roasting and Brewing Championships. We’re pleased to share Red Rooster’s coffees with you all, featuring big flavors from a small rural agricultural community in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
From the Roaster
Established in 2010 in downtown Floyd, VA (pop 432), Red Rooster was created with the simple notion of roasting excellent coffee for the owner’s existing coffee house. Soon, word of Red Rooster's quality spread around Virginia and up and down the East Coast.
Today, we employ over 40 people while roasting some of the best coffee in the world.
While we've won numerous awards and accolades for our coffee quality, our true passion is in making a positive social impact both at home and abroad at the coffee's origin. As a family business, we try hard to do our part to help create a vibrant local community by hiring locally, providing a living wage and full health care benefits to our employees, contributing to local charities, and participating in local fundraisers; all with the intention of developing into an economic and social anchor in our small rural community. In 2018 we licensed an onsite day care specifically for our employees children.
