These beans are kind of big... and kind of a big deal. The rare Javanica varietal is this farm’s specialty. From misty hills of Matagalpa and the award-winning Mierisch family, this cup is delicate and clean, with notes of watermelon juice and nutty spice. Springtime is the annual advent of Central American coffee season, and we couldn't think of a better coffee to help us "spring" into warmer weather.
Mierisch is the name to know in Nicaraguan coffee. A coffee-growing family since 1908, Mierisch operates 10 different farms spread across Nicaragua's best growing regions, and their coffees are regular placeholders in Cup of Excellence competitions. This lot is from their Limoncello farm. Javanica beans are unusually large, with a tapered, oblong shape. Javanica plants produce fewer beans than other types, but the large beans they produce are packed with flavor and complexity. Javanica coffees are known for their silky texture and aromatic fruits and florals. In fact, it was a Javanica from Mierisch that won 4th place in the 2017 Cup of Excellence.
This year, because of economic and political troubles, specialty coffee from Nicaragua is even rarer and more difficult to find than ever. This fantastic lot is a product of the family's dedication to their 100+ year old coffee tradition. Kind of a big deal, indeed. Enjoy this rare and special Javanica, one of the true treasures of the coffee world.
