Curator's Notes

We love the coffee fairytale of Silvio, the Nariño grower who takes pride in maintaining each of his trees by hand. This is an energetic, dynamic light roast, with flavors that swing between dusky tea and juicy citrus, and a finish like a touch of raw sugar dissolving on the tip of your tongue. It’s “Lucy” in the sky... with coffee!

Roaster's Notes

Coffee farms don't get scrappier than Lucitania, or more personal. In the municipality of Florida in Nariño, Servio Chincha grows coffee on 4 hectares of steep hillside land. Of the farmers we visited and purchased from this year, Servio stood out because of how personally he grew his crop. He told us that apart from harvesting, he is the only one that touches his plants. He mulches each coffee shrub every year, trims them back on a schedule, planted the shade trees that hovered over us, fertilized each plant scoop by scoop. His mission is pure: to produce a perfect crop. He is one of the many farmers we met that proved it doesn't take riches or an army to produce an excellent product, it just takes heart.

"This wasn't as flavorful as I had expected hot --I surprisingly enjoyed it more iced. It was iced tea-esque to me, and refreshing. "

"This is the first coffee I tried from Bean Box. I enjoyed the citrus and tea flavor. It's a light coffee, which as a newbie to artisan coffees, I enjoyed. I didn't need to add sugar or cream and could enjoy the hints of flavor in the coffee."

"I enjoyed the coffee, but didn't get a lot of the fruit flavors. The finish was like black tea as described, but disappointed that I couldn't taste the citrus."

"I just finished this coffee this morning. I did it in a pour over and it was a little to light for me, I really like dark coffees. This is great for people who enjoy fruity hints in their coffee. Great quality and flavor just not for me. "

"Brewed via pour over. This coffee definitely shows some fruitiness with orange-ish up front alongside a little spice thats not overwhelming, and a finish similar to black tea and a lingering flavor of tart grapefruit. The body is very light, so the finish is crisp. a well done lightly roasted coffee"

"Remarkable story behind the coffee... nice to know and ponder while sipping this mild blend. I liked it black... my partner enjoyed it doused with cream."

"Delicious well balanced coffee. Makes a great espresso. Nice sweet notes shine. "

"Brewed at a 15:1 with a pour over. Flavor was a hint of sour fruit, but mostly a lack of flavor. Not my most favorite coffee but might be a good cup for someone who adds a lot of cream and sugar. "
