Why I’m Obsessed: It’s a holiday miracle! I’ve been wanting this present for a long time: Verve Coffee Roasters on Bean Box. And what do you know… it’s finally happened! I’ve had my eye on Verve as one of the true visionaries in specialty coffee for years. Born in 2007 in Santa Cruz, Verve is a standout example of how one roaster can move an entire industry forward. They invest deeply in direct partnerships with producers, hosting coffee summits where growers can share knowledge and experience, and spearheading initiatives like The Nursery Project, which has distributed tens of thousands of coffee seedlings to farmers in Colombia. Closer to home, their Santa Cruz HQ is optimized for environmental stewardship, with solar panels, paper-free workflows, compostable packaging, and of course, the simple fact that their coffees are fantastic. Not that you need anyone’s word but mine, but… they were Roast Magazine’s 2024 Roaster of the Year.

And now, Sermon. I don’t think I have to preach to the choir here: this is one of Verve’s true flagships, a beloved combo of fruit and chocolate, and a seasonal blend I keep coming back to. I love tasting blueberry in a coffee, and this one delivers: but in a deep, balanced, grown-up way. You’ll smell the berry notes before you brew (thank you, natural Ethiopian), but in the cup it’s softer, blended, like the essence of blueberry wrapped in fudgy chocolate. The body is creamy like hot cocoa, with a sprinkling of toasted nuts in the finish... ’Tis the season, after all, because I keep tasting roasted chestnuts.
