Why I’m Obsessed: Coffee insider alert! The Good Food Awards this year haven’t been announced yet, but I know which horse, er, coffee I’m betting on. DRINK COFFEE DO STUFF's Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Supernatural has been named a 2025 Finalist– in contention for a top spot– and right now you can get your hands on it before the winners are even announced next month! This is DCDS's third finalist nod since launching in 2017, which tells you everything you need to know about how seriously these Tahoe-based folks take their work. And this one, even among their impressive catalog, is a true standout.
You may already know the name Yirgacheffe, a renowned coffee-growing region in Ethiopia that produces some of the most beloved, and distinctive, coffees in the world. Yirgacheffe coffees are known for their natural sweetness, their delicacy, their notes of shimmering citrus, heady florals, and jammy fruit. These natural-processed Ethiopians are the velvet pillows of the coffee world, plush and easy to sink into, and this one is impressively clean and well-balanced. Smell this one after you grind it! In the cup: soft, jammy berry, juicy nectarine, and subtle citrus notes taste like the topping of a French-bakery fruit tart. A little wine-like, in a very good way. Floral notes come in like a dusting of powdered sugar over a finish that's silky and rich like dark chocolate milk. DCDS roasts it on the medium side, which gives a little extra depth without sacrificing any of that signature Yirgacheffe brightness. Fair warning: after finishing my cup, I almost checked the mirror to see if it turned my tongue blue. THAT’S how good it tastes.
A Good Food Awards Finalist distinction means this coffee was blind-tasted against thousands of entries and rose to the top AND met the foundation's standards for environmental and social responsibility. We're not yet sure if Supernatural will take home the win in April. But we're rooting for it! Like all Roaster's Reserve offerings, quantities are extremely limited. Once it's gone, it's gone. Grab a bag of this one while it’s hot… and still a little under the radar!
Bottom Line: You'll love this coffee if you love blueberry pie filling, fruit-bomb natural coffees, or if your morning cup could use a little magic.
Roaster's Notes
2025 Good Food Awards Finalist! It’s back. And it just made national headlines.
Roaster’s Reserve: Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Supernatural has officially been named a 2025 Good Food Awards Finalist — one of the most respected honors in the food and beverage world. This marks the third time since our 2017 launch that a DRINK COFFEE DO STUFF single origin has been selected as a finalist. Humble brag: we were proud to take home a win in 2018 with another Ethiopia after less than a year in business!
This coffee isn’t just special to us. It’s objectively exceptional.
Sourced from smallholder farmers in the legendary Banko Chelchele Kebele (neighborhood) of Yirgacheffe, this lot is vibrant, expressive, and wildly aromatic. Expect an explosion of stone fruit, ripe strawberry, rose florals, and powdered sugar sweetness, all carried by a creamy, luxurious body that feels impossibly silky. Our sourcing team calls it one of the best coffees we've ever brought in, and we know you'll agree!
So, why "supernatural"? It’s all about the processing.
Whole coffee cherries are sealed in carbon fiber drums and fermented for up to 10 days before being carefully dried on raised beds. This extended natural process intensifies the fruit character and builds layered sugars, creating a cup that tastes like nectarine and strawberry folded into cream and dusted with confectioner’s sugar. Grown at 7,500ft and roasted with intention at altitude, this coffee is elegant, high-definition, and unforgettable.
This is the bottle-of-wine-you-save-for-yourself energy.
The pour-over you bring out when you want to impress.
The coffee that quietly ruins other coffees.
Like all Roaster’s Reserve offerings, quantities are extremely limited. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
