Tastes Like: Snickerdoodle, Pomegranate, Blood Orange, Caramel

Curator’s Notes: Our favorite high-altitude roasters have done it again! When Drink Coffee Do Stuff told me their Salvadoran “Unicorn” Microlot was back for another season, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a bag of these magical beans. Unicorn El Salvador is super easy to drink and approachable for a Latin American single origin, thanks to its balanced medium-light roast profile. At first sip, you really will think you’re biting into a snickerdoodle cookie, or a cinnamon donut, with a nice, vanilla custard smoothness and a healthy dash of cinnamon-sugar spice. Buttery white floral overtones augment the flavor, but don’t take over, and the finish is juicy and rich with a fruity mix of pomegranate, lime zest, blood orange, all surrounded by a brown-sugar caramel sweetness. My favorite coffees from El Salvador bring a bright, limey acidity and sugary caramel-corn notes, and this one delivers that and so much more. El Salvador Unicorn is a natural processed microlot from Loma La Gloria farm, located on the Quetzaltepac volcano at a sky-high 5,400 feet above sea level. DCDS has a direct relationship with producer Anny Pimentel, who took over the farm from her father. This coffee is a wonderful example of a true partnership between a talented grower and a great roaster. Don’t miss this super fruity, caramel-sweet, snickerdoodle of a microlot: get your bag before, like a true unicorn, it gallops away into the sunset!
