Sydney wakes up by caring for her skin as a luxurious daily ritual.
“I feel like i get my most "delicious" sleep when i get to fall back asleep in the morning.”
§ What time do you get to sleep? What time do you wake up?
I go to sleep sometime between 11:00 and 1:00 depending on whether I give into watching more than one episode of whatever TV show I am into. I usually set my alarm for 7:00, and snooze until 8:00, I feel like i get my most "delicious" sleep when i get to fall back asleep in the morning.
§ What do you dream about?
I do a lot of processing in my dreams, about issues and challenges I am facing in my life, they are all very simple, yet symbolic. I will remember them as soon as I wake up but usually end up forgetting everything as the day progresses.
§ What’s the first thing you do once you’re awake?
Unless my roommates are sleeping, I will usually put music on right away. I like listening to vinyl and will put on Amy Winehouse before hopping into the shower. If I'm in a hurry I will put on whatever playlist I've made on Spotify lately.
§ What morning ritual do you have that’s sacred to starting your day off right?
My most important part of my morning is my skincare routine. I love taking my time with each step, it makes me feel pampered and I am always trying new things to get it just right. I can spend hours watching videos on youtube about different products and their benefits. My staples are Witch Hazel Toner and Bio Oil for scars and uneven skin tone.
§ What one possession/object is essential to your morning?
My cologne, Jazz Club by Maison Margiela, is my signature scent and when I spray it on before heading out the door, I automatically confident and ready for the day.
§ With whom do you spend your mornings?
I spend my mornings with my partner, who never has to be up when I do, so they usually stay sleeping and only wake up to say a sleepy goodbye before I head out the door.
§ What do you eat for breakfast?
My favorite breakfast is greek yogurt with berries and chia seeds, the seeds add a little bit of crunch and texture and are filled with antioxidants. If I am in a hurry I will grab a banana or grapefruit. It is super important to have something in my stomach in the morning because I take a lot of vitamins, B-12, and an immune support are essential, and I recently tried the subscription service, takecareof.com which gives you a recommendation based on a quiz about your health goals.
§ What kind of coffee do you drink in the morning, and how do you prepare it?
During the week I drink coffee at work, from the Chemex. Luckily I usually come in as soon as a fresh batch has been brewed. I like all types of roasts, but my favorites are Zoka's Tuscan blend or Seven's Brazil, but I often crave the blueberry pancakes coffee: Vashon Coffee Company's Ethiopia Banko Dhadhato.
§ What’s the one upgrade you wish you could add to your morning?
I would upgrade my morning with an at home espresso machine if I could, or a puppy to cuddle and go on runs with, even though it would be much harder to leave the house!
§ What do you consider the end of your morning?
The end of my morning is usually when I start working after catching up with my coworkers and planning our day together over coffee.
