Curator's Notes

Pe-CAN you believe it? We’ve carried Honduras Santa Barbara from Kuma for 5 years straight, and this year’s lot takes the... pecan pie – complete with a cherry on top, of course! San Vicente and the Paz family are THE names to know in Honduran coffee, and this microlot shines with a silky, light body, a profile of juicy stone fruit (black cherries and peaches and plums, oh my) and all the sticky sweetness of honey-roasted nuts. With its mellow acidity and caramelized sugars, it really does evoke a freshly-baked pecan pie, or a pecan sticky bun, especially in the long finish. Go ahead, make your hazelnut creamer jealous! With Kuma’s light-roast expertise, this black coffee needs no adornment.

Roaster's Notes

Honduras Jose Esteban Madrid Jose Esteban entered his second year our lineup, and as we seek to build long term relationships with these Honduran farmers, we hope it will be many more years of roasting his coffees. While the state of the world kept us from visiting Honduras this year, we were still able to get access to the famed coffees of Santa Barbara mill, and the work of Bend Coffee and mill owner and organizer Benjamin Paz. These coffees are on the short list of best of Honduras, and we are honored to have gotten ahold of them. We've often described coffees from this region as crushable, so silky and sweet you'll want to drink them all day long. This lot is no exception, yet it takes that sentiment further, with a pronounced concord grape acidity, and long floral aromatics like orange blossoms. These high notes are grounded with rich toasted hazelnut sweetness and a clean, crisp finish. We are delighted to offer this coffee, we're pretty sure you'll love it too. "So interesting here. I had tried this coffee ☕️ a year ago and decided to give it another shot today. So glad I did. This year’s roast was a real thumbs up! I really wished the peach notes were more pronounced as they were practically nonexistent. Other than that I really enjoyed my morning cuppa."

"This coffee is like the climax of a story: it builds up excitement with the tasting notes, the bean and grind aroma with succulent cherry notes... then it kind of falls flat in the brew. It is a solid, balanced coffee but doesn't live up to its potential."

"Typically I love ❤️ Honduran coffees. This one however did not impress. No flavor notes at all. Just meh. Slightly smooth but no body or taste."
