Curator's Notes

Caffe Vita’s Holiday Blend boldly goes where snowman has gone before! This medium roast blend of Brazilian and Guatemalan coffees bring a rich and creamy profile like chocolate nougat, with spiced orange notes skiing through the finish. In collaboration with Sam Spillman, the 2019 US Barista Champion, Caffe Vita’s Holiday Blend captures the magic of the Pacific Northwest — its big, full-bodied flavors have us dreaming of cabins in the snow-capped mountains. One sip, and you’ll be head over… hills!

Roaster's Notes

Snow-capped mountains and hot coffee are what make the holiday season in the Pacific Northwest magical. For this year’s holiday blend, we want to bring the feeling of holiday spirit in the mountains to you. Wherever you are and wherever you may go, we want to come with. Our Holiday Blend is the perfect companion for your holiday season, with flavor notes of spiced orange, brown sugar, and chocolate nougat. Head Roaster, Wade McIntyre, and US Barista Champion, Sam Spillman, collaborated to create a blend of Brazil and farm-direct Guatemala from the Keller family – our favorite producer partnership in the Americas. For over a decade, Vita has been purchasing outstanding coffee from the Keller family and we are proud to feature them in our 2021 Holiday Blend. Together these coffees create a blend that perfectly complements the foods and spirit of the holiday season, with flavor notes of spiced orange, brown sugar, and chocolate nougat. Brew it as a drip coffee, espresso, or any brew method of your choice to pair it with your favorite holiday indulgence. This year’s Holiday Blend features art by Seattle artist Karl Maxx, inspired by winters spent in cozy mountainside cabins in the Pacific Northwest. Happy Holidays from Caffe Vita to you!

"Okay, not really a standout. Didn't really taste any of the flavors at all."

"Solid flavors but much darker than expected for a medium roast. Glad to have tried it but probably wouldn’t get it again "

"I also made this as espresso and loved it as both pour over and espresso. I looked forward to grabbing this bag over the other two coffees in my cupboard. "

"Not bad, got better as it got cooler actually. Probably would not buy again though."

"It’s a pretty good coffee but not one of my favorites. I have had so many great coffee beans from Bean Box.. this one isn’t one of them"

"I do like this, although it is not my absolute favorite of the holiday blends. I get milk chocolate, marzipan, and some dark cherry. If I received this, I wouldn't be mad. But I may not order again and instead load up on my faves."

"Medium all around flavor, body, and sipping experience for a holiday blend. "

"I went through a bag of this in early December of 2021. Caffe Vita's Holiday Blend has a depth of flavor that well-represents a good medium roast. I ended up treating this batch at around 209°F in my ceramic v60 and giving a finer grind to compensate for the lighter body that doesn't seem pitch-perfect for snowy season in my opinion. I wouldn't call this a low-acid coffee but at least to be, the acid was very subdued and made the orange a lot more enjoyable. Think 'sweet orange/tangerine flesh' as opposed to 'orange peel oil', which seemed to be what the fresh beans smell more like. It mellows out into a subtle milk chocolate. This coffee is based on a very classic flavor profile and I think Caffe Vita did a good job. However due to the fact that this coffee had such a light body, I had to use more beans in practice to get the same amount of flavor. This may have very well been user error since I was still using a new grinder at the time, but I recorded everything and think that anyone would have had this issue. Overall I rate this coffee a 4 because while I feel it may lend itself better to espresso shots for a Mexican Mocha or perhaps a cold brew, I used it for pour-over and at work in a commercial Bunn dripper and my results were no better than should be expected of this brand and type of coffee. It's good but it's not the best holiday roast and this company and flavor profile have been around long enough to have some tough competition. Check out Zoka's Tannenbaum if you want something stronger and without the orange notes. If you're looking for something with a silkier body, rich flavor AND some well-rounded holiday spice, I highly suggest Snowboard by Bluebeard Roasters. That was my favorite of last year, hands down. However, this Caffe Vita Holiday blend is still the one I'd serve to a group of strangers because it seemed the most subtle and crowd-pleasing. "

"Good medium roast for your morning brew. A touch of chocolate and maybe a slight bit of brown sugar. Couldn’t get any orange though and I was really looking forward to that. Some smoky promise/overtones if you like that. An interesting Holiday Blend. Enjoy!"
